Ali is a community engaged artist based in Nanaimo, located on the ancestral territories of the Snuneymuxw First Nation.
For over 25 years, their interdisciplinary practice has focused on facilitating collaborative creative projects that bring together artists, community members, and organizations. Rooted in community arts, participatory processes and cultural activism, Ali’s priorities are to deepen a decolonial practice and to support and strengthen care based networks and inclusive spaces. Most recently they have been involved in organizing initiatives centered on community driven and artist led death care and grief circles, exploring alternative frameworks for mourning, remembrance, and relational healing.
